President’s Report
Spring has arrived and with it a difficult and dangerous virus causing all of Philadelphia to close down. We miss our Library, East Falls’ most charming get-to place. We are rooting for all those who are helping to bring the City back to health. Thank you for remaining at home!
Spring Sale
Much to our disappointment, the Spring Book Sale will not happen in May. Collecting books and sorting takes week in advance of the sale and Drew Birden and Wendy Moody bravely chose to skip the Book Sale.
HOWEVER, Saturday May 9 will remain as the Spring Event with an outdoor party in our beautiful garden selling live plants hand selected by Suzanne Penn, hotdogs, fabulous baked goods, popcorn from our new popcorn machine and music. So please put it on your calendar and come with the whole family.
Strategic Plan
In January a small group of volunteers started to meet to review the Friends mission, vision and goals for the next 2-4 years. Ken Kolodziej, Tom Smith, Karen Du Brul, Jenna Musket, Connie Gillespie and Drew Birden have been working well as a team until COVID-19 put a screeching halt to our process. We have time on our side so I will let the virus work itself out first.
As part of our communications, Roger Marsh is looking at how to update and slim down our Friends website. He and I have been in long conversations and In short order, we should see a new look.
Roger also has expertise in ACCESS which is the format for our data base. He has graciously agreed to consider alternatives for easier maintenance. Meanwhile, Victor Lewis will be supporting Faith McDowell, Membership Chair in getting renewal notices for our 2020-21 membership drive.
Stay in your home, stay safe and use the Philadelphia Library’s vast borrowing system of eBooks, movies, TV, audio books and music.
See you all May 9 in the Library Garden, the heart of East Falls.
Margaret Sadler, President of Friends
